Avantages

Now that I no longer work here I can be free to say that the experience I had at Databricks started really great back in 2021. I worked with a lot of really smart people, the merch was nice and comfy and the salary was fair at the time.

Inconvénients

After going on five years here, I couldn’t take the cult-like experience. It’s a very strange way of running a company to say the least, especially when at the head there’s terrible leadership. What made me stay at Databricks for so long was easily the people, but there are several bad apples that surely ruin the bunch. There’s also this weird drive to compete constantly with snowflake and tear them down. Higher ups will literally share a company-wide email about how terrible snowflake is and how to be combative on social posts. I mean what do you expected when you hire 9000+ new people in just 4.5 years? For a company that makes as much money as they do, they are incredibly greedy and stingy with raises, promotions and refreshers. You have to literally sell your soul and brown-nose as much as you can to get that promotion. The upside is no longer here and if you care about yourself and your mental, there are several other companies that are far better and doing cooler things than Databricks

Avantages

Great teams made up of smart, motivated people. Databricks is an exciting place to work because it is part of the growing data and AI tools space. The benefits and income are also good overall.

Inconvénients

Databricks no longer feels like a startup. There are now multiple layers of bureaucracy, and leadership can feel territorial rather than collaborative. Over time, it can seem like business growth and internal politics have become stronger drivers than innovation or employee experience. For long-tenured employees, it may become harder to stay excited or feel challenged. Other companies may offer a more energizing environment.
