Avantages

As a true animal advocate any time you get to make a difference in any animals life it’s the most genuinely rewarding feeling and the best part of my time working at the ASPCA animal hospital.

Inconvénients

Terrible work culture. Unnecessary use of muzzles on animals. Staff is supposed to be fear free certified but they prioritize staff safety before animal empathy and temperament assessment. Work gets pushed on newer staff, while other staff spends more time gossiping with each other and drawing in the medical exam table like middle school students rather than actually working. Isolation is a walk-in disaster. A place where a parvo dog is mixed in with dogs with kennel cough. The hospital turn over rate is so bad that the hospital is consistently short staffed. The overnight team is disregarded even though they have had some of the hardest working shift members I saw during my time working there. New staff is not properly trained by some staff members. And are not openly welcomed into the team. Higher up management spends their weekends hanging out with other staff members and biases can be seen clearly on the job. Their floor managers spend more time in their offices than on the floor. Their morning schedule is not parallel to their midday/afternoon schedule. And they wonder why keeping a team member on that schedule has been so unsuccessful. Some of their LVTS are incredible but unfortunately there are others who lack skills and empathy.

Avantages

Excellent healthcare and 401k options (if you can manage to stay long enough). Hospital employees are "allowed" to bring their pets in for free care

Inconvénients

92nd st hospital senior leadership struggles with consistency and managerial development. Senior management was often not in the office or unavailable, which made expectations around career growth, accountability, and delegation unclear and all decisions will be held against you. Coaching does not exist, feedback is limited and untruthful, and advocacy from middle management frequently appeared to be influenced more by personal relationships than by fairness or alignment with organizational goals. The job descriptions shifted significantly without discussion or transparency. Tenured employees have created a survivalist atmosphere, and they are miserable, hypocritical, lack soft skills, and motivation; if you try to change that- well off with your head! Controlled substance handling is a joke- senior managers don't know the laws or how to handle them; multiple fentanyl bottles were left out and there's no checks and balances system when people are supposed to dispose of a medication. Multiple employees cut their lunch breaks without permission or clock in early- hundred of thousands of dollars are being spent and theres no financial recourse bc upper management doesn't have to be accountable to a labor budget and its knowingly overlooked by HR.
