Avantages

I was at DNL for 1.5 years. It was a time that I remember fondly and these are the reasons why: 1. The team - I was fortunate enough to join when there were just a handful of people on the team and the collaboration and team spirit was palpable. What's even more impressive is as the team grew, the culture remained. It's not easy to find such an atmosphere anywhere. 2. The projects - As a small startup I was never bored. Being in the backend I was exposed to all aspects of it, from design to implementation. I left DNL a better and more rounded engineer thanks to the exposure I gained to what takes to build a project from scratch to release. 3. The communication - This could be part of the first point, but I believe that it deserves its own highlight because rarely you can find the level of transparency I witnessed at DNL. This builds trust, which in turn empowers the team, which results in quality deliverables. Despite how simple it sounds, its rare to come by it. 4. The flexibility - The place where you work is not as important as the work that you do. While I was at DNL I enjoyed being with the team, but if I preferred to work from home this was never an issue. It was understood and part of the company culture that what you deliver is what counts.

Inconvénients

Being a small startup, priorities would shift quickly. Your tasks could change depending on what was most urgent at the time. This can be a downside for anyone not comfortable with change (yet the fact that management communicated these changes as soon as they could did help greatly).

Avantages

- A great team of people striving for success. - Cool technologies. - The team doesn't close itself off to new solutions (processes, technologies). - Money is good :)

Inconvénients

The atmosphere is startup-like—you either like it or you don't. In such places, you learn a lot, but you also work a lot using various tools and technologies. This was an advantage for me but will be a disadvantage for some.

Avantages

Good work life balance, not the typical startup stress

Inconvénients

Overall, my experience was rather disappointing. While the company offers a good work-life balance, several fundamental issues made it difficult to feel truly engaged or empowered in my role. The organizational structure is heavily influenced by corporate processes that often slow down execution. Decision-making is highly centralized, with most authority resting in the hands of the CEO and CTO, while other C-level executives have limited impact and decision-making power. This leads to a lack of clarity and autonomy at other levels of the organization. Employees are not given much responsibility or trust to drive initiatives forward independently, which stifles growth and motivation. Communication and feedback loops are weak or being avoided, making it hard to align or improve performance effectively. Despite promoting an AI product, the internal setup is surprisingly manual. Many routine tasks that could easily be automated are still handled manually, and the overall tooling landscape feels outdated and inefficient. Onboarding and offboarding processes also leave a lot to be desired and would benefit from a complete overhaul to provide a more professional and structured experience. There is definitely potential, but a lot of foundational work is needed to create a more empowering and efficient working environment
