Avantages
Good reputation. Solid Products. Good people to work with in general across the world. Very well developped partner/disti network. Good pre-sales, design and support processes. Used to have good competence at the SE, tech support and R&D engineer levels.
Inconvénients
Primarily investor and executive management team were mostly focused on the short term results (3 months or less), not on a long term sustainable strategy for the future. To be fair, there were good strategy initiatives launched but limited funding and/or resources were put behind them to finish the job. Many of them were abandonned or sold off. Also, a lot of good design/support people in W.Eu. and NA were let go due to numerous downsizing/cost cutting exercises over the years and replaced by much less experienced engineers in low cost regions. This clearly affects how design and support can respond to product faults and needed feature enhancements/improvements. What used to take months, now takes years. Finally, there has always been this "us vs. them" mentality between product groups and even between regions. And all this was before the Unify acquisition. So this will be interesting.
