Avantages
Decent enough cafeteria but expensive
Inconvénients
There are a lot of concerns when working for family businesses, which are inherently dysfunctional. I have worked for a large school board for around 10 years, and I took a year to try something different here. All it did was make me appreciate my original school board. I can confidently compare the environments, and this was worse on every level. This is a very poor work environment - you are severely undercompensated for the very long hours and expectations of extra curricular. Your summer break is also cut weeks short which is very precious to a teacher's quality of life. The administration is the most unprofessional of my working life - I was yelled at in a closed office, and considered litigation but ultimately was not worth pursuing. There are people who are very "protected" which you can assume who exactly that is. Every year they expect you to sign a contract, although the legal system understands you are a continuous employee, they try to get away with what they can. Exploitative environment. I never quit my large school board, but boy did I return with a very large appreciation for it!! They also called my subject area something that does not even exist in Alberta, and my school just had a laugh, when I explained how goofy this place is. I was very happy to have not quit my schoolboard, to have not needed WA for any references, and I don't even include that year on my resume. I like to pretend the nightmare didn't even happen.
