Avantages

They do a great job of hiring cool people, but they're being robbed of something better (we need to go somewhere else). The 40% discount is the only great thing and I will go on a shopping spree before putting in my two weeks notice next month.

Inconvénients

The Container Store is the worst place to work at. They talk about their "employee first culture" all the time because they start them off at $12/hour. Okay, nice but you're lucky if you get scheduled 5 hours a week. They just love calling you out of the blue to tell you, "Hey, guess what! You're off today because we won't need you." So that would leave you with 0 hours for the week. It's bogus. With the holidays around the corner, we thought: great, more hours! But then they hired 10 new people! For those working their butts off on the 5am merchandise truck, all hopes were lost to become a floor sales associate because guess what! They hired a handful of new people for that, too. They try to sell you on how much they "invest in training" but don't fall for it. The new people don't know the basics of how to cut a box open (they suck) so that leaves the rest of us with more work; it's not their fault because they're still great people (it's management). Wow, talk about undermining your employees. Of the many odd jobs I've had, management (and the unnecessary micromanaging) has been the worst here. Oh, and why does the pregnant lady get to wear the non-sweaty cotton work shirt and the rest of us are stuck with the pesky polyester? Is it because she's pregnant or a manager? Less than 10% of the employees are full-time. The rest typically get 4-10 hours a week. Not even 15 which would be decent! To quote a new employee, "The hours are killing me but I'm holding on. I have a 3rd interview with ____ tomorrow." As a result, The Container Store has experienced a surge of turnover. They've lost several dedicated, hard workers who've some been there for years. I loved the store months ago when I had a solid 10 hours (smirk) of work but I'm losing my motivation as so many people are and are quitting as a result of it. Tsk tsk. One more thing, I know that Melissa Reiff (the CFO or something like that) is a great person and I'm sure she means well, but she looked like an idiot at the store meeting when she talked about how they "take care of their employees". Is she blind?

Avantages

Everyone from director level on down in my department was great. Very collaborative. Gave you autonomy to do and try new things.

Inconvénients

Where do I start…Sr. Leadership is TERRIBLE. I mean absolutely horrific. No direction and plans were changing at the drop of a dime after the BB&B “merger”. You could feel the shift in the culture, just NASTY attitudes and taking the employees for granted. The new CEO and the rest of Sr. level execs acted like everyone was just expendable workhorses. They touted reopening the headquarters cafe as some awesome benefit so they could bring people back to the office full time. If you’re going to be bullish and require everyone back, have some guts and just do it. But don’t act like a cafe is some life changing benefit to get everyone excited. Anyway, blind leading the blind. The merit increase or raises - non existent. No 401k match. Nothing positive because the company is so broke. The new store concept sounds a mess. Save yourself and don’t even apply, let alone accept an offer. Joel Bines is no longer the CEO. He was a great guy and I think he had great ideas. Marcus Lemonis is the new CEO and I would give him a thumbs down.
