Avantages

Benefits with company stock options and a great, close-knit family of co-workers within the office. Various functions and activities allowed for weekend bonding and client net-working. Work rarely flowed-over and interrupted with weekend downtime. Generous $/km when using your vehicle on job.

Inconvénients

Company management was frustrating - Stantec was overly concerned with smaller company acquisitions (2 or 3 companies a year) and was dealt with the unfortunate circumstances of closing smaller offices for the benefit of cost-cutting (basic economics right?). Business classes or profit centres broke office unity and made broadening your experience under other disciplines within the Stantec umbrella difficult. Project management seemed lazy and unsupportive at times with their abbreviated workdays (9-3:30 or sometimes earlier). Always a threat to being released if an ideal chargeability wasn't met and pay-hikes were in minute increments and were never seemed befitting to the effort you put into your job.

Avantages

Hybrid Work and access to useful engineering tools

Inconvénients

Projects are inconsistent in organization and structure (some good some bad). High (and strict) utilization requirements of >93% for entry level and mid level engineers results in overtime with overlapping work loads to avoid any downtime between projects. No development or mentorship strategy around work assignments, the main goal is to keep utilization up. Stantec has been very focused on cutting costs by offshoring, limiting conference attendance, reducing volunteer hours, no tuition reimbursement, multiple layers of approvals to attend in-office CPR training, etc. Very corporate environment and top heavy management with over 240+ “Vice Presidents” currently at the company. Difficult to get raises/promotions besides annual raise. Typical raise is ~3-5% with a good review depending on where your current salary is in relation to the pay range for your career level.
