Avantages

- Entry-level employees in operations (van drivers, warehouse crew) are generally down-to-earth, good people - You can take pride in recycling responsibly and keep tons of stuff out of landfills - Decent pay for van drivers ($24/hour w/benefits)

Inconvénients

- Seniority and efficiency are not financially rewarded or incentivized. Van drivers who have been there over a year are making $24/hour, the same pay as brand new drivers. Van drivers who are doing 20 stops/hour are paid the same as those doing the minimum of 10 stops/hour. Pay for warehouse associates is $20/hour, which is hardly a living wage in Seattle anymore - There is no focus on or discussion of DEI in the leadership team - I worked with Ridwell for 16 months and they never talked about it. Nearly all of Ridwell's leadership is white males - Managers insult van drivers behind their backs and blames them for things that aren't their fault. The AM Ops Supervisor said "some of our van drivers are kind of stupid" in a meeting on 4/8 with 10 employees present, and when I challenged them on that they said to me " our Fleet is stupid and lazy". That is incredibly unprofessional and unfair to say, so I reported this to their manager. I was fired one week later - Managers lie and don't follow through on their commitments. The Operations Manager committed to four meetings with me to give me performance feedback in my new role as AM Operations Lead. He blew off three of those meetings, then blamed me for allegedly not improving my performance and used that as a pretext for firing me - Leadership is obsessed with money and reducing the "cost per stop" and talks about it constantly - way more than they talk about improving operations or becoming more mission-aligned. Ridwell recycles most of what they collect, but tons more could be recycled with a little extra effort but ends up in the trash because their profits are tied to collecting stuff, not recycling it

Hi there, To start, we want to apologize for your experience as a Ridwell employee. We want to create a better experience for our team of amazing people who make a significant difference daily. As a new and growing startup, we often allow people to step into leadership roles. Sometimes this works out great! And sometimes, as in your case, it doesn't. Since your departure, the company has up-leveled our investment in our people, starting with hiring a Head of People, so there is someone who is dedicated to the employee experience and leadership development. While we still have a ways to go, there has been much progress over the last several months. The main focus of the People Team at Ridwell is to elevate the employee experience to mirror the member experience. This focus is present and vocal at the Executive table. A note about how we value DEI at Ridwell - DEI is top of mind in our hiring, promotion, and development practices. This value may not be vocalized at the morning huddles, but it is very much a work in process. Diversity is more than meets the eye. What might appear as an "all-white male leadership team" could be different from your perception. We respect the privacy of our people and don't necessarily shout from the rooftops all the different ways Diversity is present. And finally, thank you for your Advice to Management. We have done much of what you have suggested and are continuing to work hard to make Ridwell a great place to work.

Avantages

The pro environmental ethos of the company attracts great coworkers

Inconvénients

If you are someone who likes your experience as a member, do not expect the same as an employee. It is the complete opposite. Employees both in the warehouse and office were extremely stressed and overworked. The work spaces were not maintained, and management seemed to rely on people volunteering their time to manage common spaces. The turnover was alarmingly high. Coupled with the lack of processes, that makes for a chaotic work environment. Management was erratic in their decision-making and had no problem asking way too much of their employees. Unfortunately the whole org seems to be run on ego.
