Working for Rice Energy, specifically under the leadership and tutelage of Toby Rice, was the best professional experience of my over a decade and a half in the oil & gas industry. From the moment I arrived I was given an extremely clear mission and vision for my role, how it fit in with my department and ultimately how it fit into the entire company. I never knew until then, and my 5 years thereafter, what completely being aligned in a company does for your performance and overall job satisfaction. Every day I came to work and wanted to put my best foot forward and to learn my weakness and turn them into strengths. To learn how to think outside of the box and find technologies to improve efficiencies, processes and data integrity. It was encouraged to challenge basic day to day tasks and find a better solution, and when you did challenge something, if it was needed, it was implemented. To be frank, if it wasn’t for Toby Rice, I would have never been exposed to such a way of doing business and learning the invaluable skills I possess today. In my opinion, Toby Rice was undoubtedly the ‘X’ factor in turning Rice Energy into what it ultimately became. Toby possess all the best qualities you see in any visionary leader, and I am extremely proud to have been a part of it. Working at Rice Energy was not just a job, it was something much more than that.
