Avantages

NetApp offers solid health benefits and a stable product line. It's a company where many people have built long-term careers due to the comfort and longevity it can offer. Historically, leadership was strong and the culture supportive. However, the internal culture has changed drastically in recent years, and collaboration across teams has suffered. There’s an irony in NetApp branding itself as an “intelligent data management” company, when internal decision-making and cross-functional cooperation often lack strategic thinking.

Inconvénients

1. Nepotism: It’s noticeable. Some individuals appear to be on the payroll without contributing meaningfully, which can be frustrating for those who are trying to deliver. 2. Micromanagement: Particularly in the sales function, even entry-level roles are heavily scrutinized. You’re often micromanaged not just by your manager, but also by teams like marketing who struggle with basic communication and hitting their goals. This is not always the case for every manager you get - however, please be careful with who you work with and work under. 3. Toxic culture in S3 Academy: In my experience, the program lacks structure and accountability. There have been many concerns regarding inappropriate conduct and a lack of safe boundaries—these need to be addressed seriously by HR and leadership. These concerns are almost never brought up. And the coaches often engage in unprofessional behavior, talking about trainees behind their backs and fostering a cliquey, high-school-like atmosphere rather than a professional learning environment. The culture urgently needs reform and real oversight. 4. Culture: What used to be a supportive culture has taken a turn. Politics and favoritism have started to outweigh meritocracy. 5. Credit-Stealing: Recognition can be rare. Without a strong, supportive manager, it’s easy to have your work overlooked or claimed by others. 6. Lack of Career Growth: Upward mobility is very slow. If you're ambitious and looking to grow, NetApp may not be the right place unless you're okay with plateauing or returning after growing elsewhere.

Avantages

- Not the worst pay around - Opportunity for advancement if you get the right management - Good financial benefits (ESPP, 401k options, mega backdoor Roth) - The one thing GK is good at is driving up the company stock price. Hope you got yourself some RSUs

Inconvénients

- NetApp hasn't made a new product in 10 years, so you'll be hard pressed to find development work that isn't directly tied to supporting what was built before then. - Very little innovation other than weekend-project-level AI tools - Health and dental benefits are not great - Upper management is completely detached from reality
