There are always two sides to a story, right? As a small growing business, I was impressed with you in your interview and decided to make an investment of adding you to staff because we were considering expanding internationally and hoped you could help us with that. After extensive research into it, it was determined there was too little chance of success in going that direction so I met with you and let you know that because the company had been losing money for three months, we needed to cut expenses and your position as a result. However, compassionately (I hoped), I gave you 6 weeks’ notice so you could spend your off time looking for employment elsewhere. Immediately I wrote you a letter of recommendation and offered to send your resume with a positive recommendation to my business network which you didn’t take me up on. As to the security camera, I rarely check it except when one of our young employees was expected in at 7am, coming via public transportation from Philadelphia. One day when I saw that she had come in because her coat was there, I checked back assuming she was in the restroom. When she still wasn’t there, I called her to make sure she was okay. I have never thought someone took too much time or shouldn’t be able to use the restroom at any time they needed to. I’m sorry she didn’t see this as what it was, a concern for her safety and well-being.
