Avantages

Great first software job. PMs are great and communicate clearly and thoroughly. Coworkers were all really nice whenever I actually got a chance to have a normal conversation with someone (Once every few months or so). Busy. Lots of work to do.

Inconvénients

You really have to prove yourself to the owner. Not as much flexibility for what I needed in my family situation. I did a short training at the beginning but most everything was self taught. Pay could have been better. Experience gained is more valued around the general software development life cycle with skills related to that more than any particular coding language. Though most of that will be XML/XSLT, JS, and some SQL. A con if you are looking to do more ground work coding and development.

Avantages

Coworkers are friendly and easy to get along with. The director, who is the single boss of the office, is very understanding and willing to help when needed. Requesting time off for vacation or appointments/family matters is usually approved without any issues. Company culture is generally very relaxed and created a good overall experience before we were forced back into the office. The trade off of low pay for being fully remote was worth it.

Inconvénients

Return to office was handled very poorly and has killed morale among employees. After being fully remote for five years, the company owner sent out a survey asking if we would like to continue working remotely. The results of the survey were ignored and we were brought back into the office. A handful of people were told they could continue working from home. This was a lie. The owner initially said we would be working on a hybrid schedule (3 days in, 2 days out). This was a lie. New employees were hired shortly before the return to office mandate was issued, and were told the position would be fully remote after a month of in office training. This was a lie. The owner obviously intended to have all employees return to the office full time, but decided to lie about it in an attempt to curb any backlash. The entire situation was handled with a complete lack of respect towards the employees. This lack of respect is not an isolated incident, and has been illustrated by the owner numerous times outside of this specific example. Only apply here if you are very desperate, and even then, immediately start looking for another job if you are hired, as many of the skills learned on this job are only applicable to the company’s custom low code platform, and not directly relevant to any other employers.
