Line managers are left to fend for themselves and the lack of support operationally from this department has significantly affected the performance of all within delivery. Very questionable recruitment tactics internally with senior positions being awarded without following correct procedures. Answer me this, how does an interviewer for a senior position conduct final stages of interviews, give feedback “lack of experience” then awards themselves the job with the zero experience themselves?? Career progression… it’s not what you know that will take you far at Hyperoptic. It is 100% who you know, this has been proved time and time again. As long as you know when to say yes and who to say yes in front of you are already 90% of your way to your next position. Merit, hard work, skills and knowledge are not a contributing factor when it comes to progression. Even some of the 4-5 star reviews dating back a few years on here have highlighted this issues - it’s engrained deep in the culture of the management teams. The appreciation of employees has been ongoing for a good few years now. The only issue with this is some departments and their management teams have abused the process taking away the positive affect of the scheme. Handing out awards week by week for effectively just turning up for work and completing tasks to an average standard. Above and beyond is a term that is used loosely and should be reserved for the individuals, teams and departments that really do pull it out of the bag. Employee relations really do try hard to tell the world how great it is at Hyperoptic. That’s the problem, all the effort goes into the facade that it’s an employee focused company with all the “great place to work” posts and hand picking of individuals that have just been promoted to write reviews and articles about. Let’s take mental health awareness for example “well being Wednesdays” fantastic! What an amazing idea, every employee receives an email telling them how they can take time out, how to be more mindful and to step away. Not a single enabler in sight though, how do you expect employees to take heed of the advice and actions your sending out if you won’t support them when they do! The churn rate of leaders is exceptionally high, directors have come and gone in short spaces of time and seem to be getting replaced with very little experience in return. Unrealistic targets are set but not communicated to the operational functions. Having a supply chain that cannot keep up with rollout is like buying a car without an engine, looks fantastic but doesn’t deliver what you need it to! Literally… Communication… worst experience with any employer in my 25 years in this industry. The transfer of responsibility is complete as soon as you hit send in outlook. Emails, regardless of acknowledgment are a form of “it’s not my problem anymore you deal with it”. The justifying of existence and roles from some individuals is damaging morale on a daily basis! All these attitudes and dis-functions only exists because the leadership team have allowed and enabled it. Weak and inexperienced leaders really can destroy a companies morale, productivity, integrity and worst of all individual innovative spark… here lay the proof!

Thank you for your review and feedback. We are an ambitious company and we work at pace - with that comes challenge and ambiguity. This is one of the things that makes Hyperoptic a fun place to work. We recognise that there is always room for improvement and we encourage all our employees across the business to openly feedback - whether via their line manager, our Employee Voice forum or our all employee survey which we run twice a year. Thank you, The Culture and Engagement team.

Thank you for your review. We are glad to see the 5 stars and read that you had a good experience working at Hyperoptic. Thank you as well for the feedback on bonuses and salary, it's important to us to know what employee and former employees think should be improved. We do have an annual salary review process, designed to ensure fair remuneration based on job performance and market standards. However, not every review results in an increase, as it depends on various factors that are defined for each review cycle. The same it is for the bonus, which is based on performance. Thanks again for your review, the Culture and Engagement Team
