Avantages

As a younger employee, Fluor provides a fantastic opportunity to start career while earning a decent salary with many perks. There are many friendly and helpful people within the office who will graciously guide you and are happy to share their knowledge. It is very much a supportive team atmosphere. Due to the project based nature of the EPCM industry, it is possible to move to a different project and/or role every few years. More senior employees may have the opportunity to work on projects around the world. Some other cool perks: Every second Friday off, and quarterly gathering of all employees for food and drinks.

Inconvénients

Technology wise, Fluor is quite outdated. Computers are typically running Windows XP, Office 2003, and Lotus Notes. Internal systems are also quite antique. This has a direct impact on employee productivity (especially the younger generation). The physical office environment can be quite depressive, especially due to bland decorations and poor lighting. Furniture is also dated and uncomfortable.

Avantages

Good for starting and ending a career in engineering — solid training and plenty of software available. Good benefits and WLB.

Inconvénients

Most projects are PreFEED, so lots of generic work, and they tend to overhire for these projects. It’s hard to make it to the middle ranks here because of the overhiring and layoff on contract loss cycle. The 980 schedule is actually meant to be a 10-hr day, as they began to emphasize the importance of taking lunch. TOWP and sick days are lumped together and earned on an accrued basis, so vacation days are valuable in the beginning. You can be paid your vacation days at the end, too, when your salary is higher… the consequence is that people come in sick all the time.
