Avantages
Pay is decent; better than market if you're an executive. Business units are niche with significant barriers to entry. They have owned their market share for decades. Not complicated. Free cash flow is easy to achieve.
Inconvénients
Highly charged political environment. Revolving door. Run for board member and executive wealth creation not for shareholders. Present and former executives received questionable incentives. Trickle down approach to compensation cause good talent to leave at mid-levels. Markets are cyclical. Being publicly traded this results in the typical draconian steps to achieve Q results on the backs of the people.
