Bytecode sticks to its core values. My favorite one is Harmonizing Work/ Life balance. This company truly does that. It is clear the company strives to make our customers happy, but not at the expense of the people who work here. They never demand or request more time than I am able to give. There is an open line of communication between consultants, resourcing, and management which enables me to be able to pursue my career goals and to seek out projects that make me happiest. I love the mentoring program that is set up to help support employees in their first 90 days (and beyond); I have enjoyed it both as a mentee and now as a mentor. Helping support new hires is one of my favorite things to do, so Bytecode has let me take on increasing responsibilities there. I have loved how easy it has been to get higher percentages of working time doing tasks I love, just by communicating with resourcing that I love them. They really listen and respond. Core Values * Solve complex problems * Learn continuously * Share knowledge * Communicate proactively * Drive business value and outcomes * Harmonize work and life

Inconvénients

Learning Looker and ramping on to client work does happen at a fast pace. It can feel slightly overwhelming at first. You have to be comfortable with feeling slightly uncomfortable during the ramping period (3-6 months). I have learned that this is how I grow the fastest, so it ended up being a good thing for me. You have to be comfortable with a bit of ambiguity and be someone who can take an ambiguous situation and have the initiative to turn it into scope that adds client value. This may be true of all client work, since there is a common saying that "clients don't know what they want". It is definitely true here that you often won't be handed perfectly scoped tasks to do. You will be gathering the requirements, turning them into the tasks, and then doing them. The good thing is that you are fully supported until you are Looker certified and feeling more comfortable in managing clients on your own. But if you think you are someone who will never be comfortable with ambiguity, then this might not be a good fit.

Lots of smart people to pull experience from. Onboarding is great and makes you feel empowered to learn, mess up, and learn from your mistakes. Mentors were fantastic and had a wealth of advice to get me through onboarding. Had a feeling like I found a place I could call home and was looking forward to meeting everyone in the coming weeks at the offsite.

Inconvénients

I left my previous job for this, unfortunately burning bridges. I was drawn to the opportunity to build my skills at Bytecode and learn from their team throughout onboarding. It felt like a supportive atmosphere and all of the feedback I was receiving was positive praise. Days before our big offsite meeting, the rug was pulled from under me! You're told to expect a call from HR somewhere around the 60 day mark so it didn't ring too many alarms when the request for a morning call came around the 35 day mark. I join the call and I'm told that they didn't meet revenue targets and a doing a group layoff and I'm part of it. No further explanation. I'm logged out of my account and access is closed within a minute of the call. Later I find out that the rest of my entire new hire group was let go without notice. The impression I got from this is that Bytecode doesn't plan long term or they have a very sloppy way of planning resource management. In another comment they mentioned a lot of thought goes into their decisions but it didn't seem like much thought went into this one..

Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re glad our onboarding and mentorship made a positive impact, and we’re truly sorry for the disappointment caused by the layoff. This was the first in Bytecode’s history, and we’re actively reflecting on how we can strengthen long-term planning to better support our team. We appreciate your feedback and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
