Avantages

Good kids, supportive families, and ample amount of time off.

Inconvénients

Too much nepotism, budget doesn't allow admin to hire people for additional support, admin always listens to concerns but never actually does anything about it, some classrooms are chaotic and run very poorly. Overall, one big playground for adults and students alike. Pay and benefits amount to nothing in this day and age.

Avantages

Really enjoy working with my colleagues and administration. The students are great and parents are very supportive too. As a teacher, I can try new things that can support my students best without admin interfering or being told to stick to what’s always been done.

Inconvénients

Space - like many smaller schools, space is a premium but we get creative in making things work. Probably can make more in public schools but then you have to deal with the misery of working for the NYC DOE.

Avantages

I nervously joined the Bay Ridge Prep faculty a few years ago after turning down offers at a few other schools where I knew people. The interview process, which included meeting several other teachers plus students, gave me so much insight into how special this place truly is and kept drawing me back. I have never felt so supported by colleagues and administrators, and appreciated by students and their families, than I have been at Bay Ridge Prep. So many places throw around the word community but run things like corporate institutions. I haven’t experienced that here and it really feels like I’m part of something special.

Inconvénients

Bay Ridge, the neighborhood, is a bit of a commute. There’s just one train in/out of the area and few other options besides driving. Compensation and benefits are decent for a Brooklyn private school but some of the extra perks that other private schools offer such as meal plans and funds toward tuition expenses are not offered. Maybe as the school grows it will add that on.
