The UX team - hands down. They have dedicated UX Front-End-Developers that know how to code the crap out of anything. Super easy to work with them and create awesome stuff. The UX leader is awesome too. He really made me a much better UXer and I kind of see him like a mini-Steve Jobs but with more cats. The people department is awesome too. Their fearless leader and I would sometimes chat about the need for empathy in tech. She got me, and I'm grateful she built a pretty solid department that could help get Backstop to that next level without losing it's start-upy'ness. The start-upy'ness. I love it and the people they hire are start-upy too. Oh. My. God. The people are what makes Backstop great. EVERYONE I worked with was brilliant. They hire really good people. Unlimited PTOs, and flex-schedules are awesome. The benefits in general are above-and-beyond awesome. Oh, and I loved product management too. Once they opened up, we had some invigorating, awesome pow-wows and UX brainstorms. I'm a nerd, and they were all nerdy-by-nature and they really helped me understand financial concepts I hadn't understood before.

Inconvénients

Ah, inter-related cons: Tons of meetings, paired with tons of work due, without the ability to really work remotely = some people working crazy hours. Don't get me wrong, they allow people to work remote sometimes, but you can't necessarily do that multilple times a week. Embracing remote work could help reduce the worklife inbalance some* employees may encounter. *side note: there were also people that thrived working tons of hours so a lopsided worklife balance may have been intentional for some.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I am excited that you found working with the UX team so rewarding. We are very committed to growing the team with top talent who want to have a strong voice in how our product continues to evolve. The UX team is still growing and currently, it is a struggle to support all the projects we have going on with the meetings required to coordinate with others to make these projects a reality. As the team grows, the meetings individuals need to attend will be more spread out and team members will get more time back to do what they love, create. Another benefit of growth is in the future we will be able to start exploring more flexible roles, such as remote opportunities. I agree with you that our People and Development department is doing a great job in supporting a great work environment. They have helped identify not only smart people, but people that positively impact our culture. A big part of our culture is learning and teaching, Lunch and Learns are definitely here to stay and we’re hosting more and more of them. Thanks again for sharing with us.
