Inconvénients
Ardor Learning presents itself as a premium provider of online language training and works with major institutional clients, including Spanish ministries. However, the underlying teaching model raises important questions.
Classes are delivered online, yet much of the teaching appears to rely on contractors based outside Spain who are paid relatively low rates, while clients are billed many times more per lesson. Large margins are not unusual in the training industry, but the arrangement becomes harder to justify when teachers appear to work fixed schedules with zero control over pricing, students, or how classes are delivered.
Spain has taken a strong stance in recent years against “falso autónomo” (false self-employment), where workers operate under conditions similar to employees but are classified as independent contractors. In structured online teaching environments, the line between genuine freelance work and employment can become blurred.
There is also an ethical dimension. For a company delivering services to Spanish public institutions, it is surprising how little the model seems focused on developing teaching jobs within Spain itself. Instead, it appears to rely heavily on cheaper overseas labour to deliver the service.
The company may well operate within the letter of the law in part, but the fairness, transparency and long-term sustainability of this model deserve closer reflection.
