      Entretien

I submitted a resume 11 times over a period of 2 years. I was surprised that after the advice of S& L employees forwarding my resume to HR that it took my phone call to the HR department head to get a response. Once scheduled for an interview, I was made to wait in the reception area for 45 minutes without reason for the delay-as though my time did not matter. Although I was experienced and had been pursuing an MS, I was left for 3 weeks without response following the interview. I was by a pretty well known department head that all engineers are licensed. I found this interesting since I personally knew of engineers working at S & L that have no intention of ever even taking the FE/EIT again! While I toured the departments, I attempted to ask former students, now employees, what they were working on and their reply was their email! Word of caution-your personal file is given to random employees who have face to face interviews with you, so your personal stuff is anyone's business. Needless to say, I had to literally contact the HR Department Manager to find out what the verdict was and no offer was made. It is interesting that I saw former students that often came to class hung over and had bad grades now working at S&L. Cream of the Crop! I must say that if you don't mind using a limited skill set that will focus you down to future employment in a small sector of the power industry then you will be set. Otherwise, consider it a blessing if no offer is extended and move on! I am glad to not be the typical S & L young single male!! By the way, my interviewers were generally more focused on what was important to them and less interested in how I was able to fit into their picture.

I was scheduled for an interview by Human Resources. I met with 5 structural engineers from the department for about 30 minutes each. Questions mostly pertained to my resume and past experience.

      1. Meet with HR to go over the company and benefits 2. Meet with a project manager 3. Meet one or two working engineers and get taken out to lunch by them (open time to ask questions about the company) you are told that this portion of the interview is informal and will not affect your acceptance, but it most certainly will. 4. HR letter mailed with offer within about 2 weeks

As a female, my interviewer made me very uncomfortable. He made a joke that I would be spending my free time at Sargent and Lundy "looking out the window at boys walking by" and made jokes about how I would be constantly trying to find a boyfriend within the engineering staff. It made me feel uncomfortable and I felt demeaned as an engineer. Now, reading the reviews about Sargent and Lundy being an "Old Boys Club" I have made inferences about the culture at Sargent and Lundy. My interview was very easy as I was not asked technical questions about my job. Instead, I was told that my job as a structures engineer at another company had no similarities to the job they were looking to fill. And basically it was suggested that since I was young (and I get the feeling that perhaps me being female was relevant) I knew nothing about engineering. I was not given an on site interview. This interview made me feel very uncomfortable and made me appreciate the culture present at my current job.

      Questions d'entretien [1]

      Question 1

None. Wasn't asked much other than to briefly go over my college job that had nothing to do with engineering.
