Applied online. HR called me and conducted a 'screening interview'. Called back the next day to set up a phone interview with the Hiring Manager. Had one telephone interview with the Hiring Manager, and was called by HR the next day to set up an on-site interview. Flew to Michigan the day before the interview. Nobody met me for dinner or breakfast. I drove to Allegan for the all-day interview with 5-7 people. I interviewed with the hiring manager (who also took me to lunch), his boss and a couple of my peers. One interview was conducted by a two-person panel from a related funtion. I found the people to be nice and easy to talk to. The questions were specific - what are your areas of expertise, why did you leave employer # 1, what is your greatest weakness, etc.. The hiring manager was able to clearly describe the job and his expectations of the person in that role. He was also clear on the level of autonomy I could expect in this role.

Phone screen with HR followed by Phone interview with Line Manager
Half day of short interviews with Senior managers to assess suitability and fit.
It was mentally tiring after the event but a lot of fun along the way

I interviewed with an HR person on the phone before being brought in to interview with 4 folks within the department on-site. 3 of the people I interviewed we're Managers that did not seem fully engaged or prepared for the interview. The last person I interviewed with was a Director who I thought was fully engaged and interested and a good interviewer. He asked tough and pertinent questions and followed them up with insightful and thoughtful questions and comments. I probably would not have taken the job had I been offered, the culture I observed on my on-site interview did not match what I was looking for. But I wasn't offered so I didn't have to make that decision.
