After submitting an application online, I got a call the very next day from the Michaels I'd applied to and I scheduled an interview for the day after that. I had my interview in the in-store classroom with the assistant manager and store manager and they gave me the typical questions ("Why do you want to work for Michaels," "What do you know about Michaels," etc.). They then wanted to know more about knowledge I had as far as arts and crafts were concerned, and since I was working on my B.A. in Art at the time, this is where I was really able to stand out. I was asked questions about painting, drawing tools, and paper crafting, and after I was able to answer those successfully, the manager remarked that I was the first candidate to be able to answer them all. It definitely isn't a requirement to have knowledge in fine arts, but from how the managers responded, it was pretty clear that my know-how helped me get a foot in the door very quickly and easily. By the end of the interview, I was told that I would very likely be hired and to sit tight for a week while they made the final decision. Four days later, I got the call confirming I was hired.
