completely haphazard interview. completed a lengthy take home which was a waste of time. they had an onsite portion of the interview and expected 8 hours onsite. asked me to redo the take-home assignment to which I refused. while I was onsite they had me kill time for 2 hours in the middle since they had meetings and were busy. waste of candidates time.

Applied online, then an HR coordinator set up a phone screen with the Hiring Manager. Hiring Manager was late to the call and began talking about herself (most of which was unrelated to her current role). Afterwards, she asked me about my background - which I explained the years of experience I had working with product in education and connecting students to jobs - the exact user group which Handshake should be serving. Instead, she harped on the experience I had with SWE's and how they were looking for someone with that kind of background. Surprising to me - it seems like they'd rather check the SWE box (dime a dozen) than the industry experience box - this was not listed as a technical PM role. When I asked about opportunities to learn she skills she was looking for, she said they're not interested in doing that. (So much for the mission and values around 'Learn.Grow.Repeat.') Overall, it looks like I dodged a bullet. How can you pledge to be a company which 'democratizes career opportunities', yet be closed-minded for your own hiring process? I also did some research and it seems this req. has been open since last summer. I guess I'm not surprised it's not filled...
