🚩 Invasive & Unprofessional Interview Questions — A Disappointing Experience

I was recently contacted by FirstCry for a design role, and my experience left me shocked and uncomfortable.
The first red flag was the call on a Saturday evening, during which I was pressured to send my updated CV and portfolio immediately, even after I mentioned I was out with my husband at the time. I chose not to comply, as the demand was unreasonable and intrusive.
What followed during that conversation was even more concerning:
👉 The interviewer asked where my husband works and how much he earns.
This question was entirely irrelevant to the role and deeply inappropriate. My spouse’s income has no bearing on my qualifications, commitment, or professional value. These kinds of questions are unethical, potentially discriminatory, and particularly troubling when asked of women.
The experience made me question the company’s internal values and its regard for basic professional boundaries. If this is how candidates are treated before even entering the organization, I worry about the culture inside.
I hope FirstCry seriously reconsiders how its hiring process is structured and ensures that its recruiters are trained on ethical, gender-sensitive practices.
