The job is a glorified sales position selling AT&T products in stores such as Costco and Sam's Club. The 1st round interview comprised of a relaxed, 15 minute zoom call to learn more about the opportunity and tell the interviewer a bit about yourself. The interviewer was very upfront and professional, asking questions about personal interests and background, and he clearly explained the interview process should it continue. One complaint I have is the job listing description. It portrays the job as a professional marketing position. I've pasted the listing below. "Implementation of marketing plans, including product positioning, campaign strategies, and market strategy insights Discovery of strategic business opportunities through collaboration with sales, HR, etc. Marketing opportunity for revenue Provides product/service support in order to establish proper channels of information and communication Responsible for branding, advertising, company events, and promotional collateral Work with management on projects dealing with media relations, business communications, success stories" The job is a glorified sales position. They want you to sell AT&T products in stores such as Costco and Sam's Club - yes, you'd be one of those salespeople with the Verizon t-shirts whose eyes you try to avoid when walking into the store. I'm glad the interviewer was honest about the position, as they noticed that my background didn't reflect an interest in sales, and asked me if the position was something I'd be truly interested in. I responded with "no", and it ended cordially. I can't speak to employment experience, but if you are interested in a very entry-level cold-call sales job, please check it out. Otherwise, steer clear.

I don't actually remember any besides background questions and whether I was interested.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review about your interview experience with Acquire. We are pleased to hear the overall experience was good, and we understand Marketing jobs vary depending on the industry. With that being said, we are a bit confused regarding the job you are reviewing, as we do not currently have a Marketing Assistant open position.

I submitted my resume and received an email to schedule an interview within a few hours. The first interview was pretty laid back. Just an opportunity for a supervisor to put a face to the resume. She asked a lot about my personal and professional goals. I left feeling like the company was going to be a great fit. They market themselves as having this excellent professional and personal development training, which I felt like I kind of needed. I was asked to schedule a second interview for the following week. It was less of an interview and more of an overview of the position. Now here's my biggest issue with Acquire: the job I applied for isn't the position I was interviewed for. Matter of fact, during the interview I quickly found out it's not even a position within the company. I've never given a bad review about anything in my life, but when I apply for a job I expect to be interviewed for that job and to be compensated with the salary range mentioned on the job posting. Instead, it's like a MLM structure, where employees who make sales are fast-tracked to recruit more employees to train while still making sales. I should've known there were red flags when the confirmation email from my first email assured me that "As our clients require us to do their branding and promotions in retail, we do not do any call center, door to door or strict commission sales." Why would they need to say that if it was a legitimate marketing firm and not some MLM? All of their employees start out in the same entry-level sales position being paid an hourly rate (for only two hours per day of training or professional development), the rest of their income is based on the commission they make from "sales." And when I say sales, I mean they literally stand around in Costcos and use their trademarked marketing methods to sell cable or wireless products to customers. I can respect that work, but it's not for me. Not when I'm trying to transition into marketing communications. The co-founder even told me I was overqualified for the position, but they never extended a job offer. Just a start date. They never gave me an opportunity to say "no." Before I knew it, I was walking out of the building with so many questions. My interviewer got in touch with me shortly after, and when I shared my concerns about the pay and the limited hours he kept giving me ambiguous and callous responses. At one point, he even told me I could use the rest of my day during training to "do whatever I want." I'm kind of in my mid-career transitioning into corporate from the non-profit sector. If you're fresh out of college and are bright and eager to quickly work your way up to owning your own business, I'd say this might be the company for you. If you're a mid-career professional who relies on a salaried position with benefits, I'd run in the other direction.

Dear Reviewer, We would like to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We do apologize if the Marketing Communications Assistant position caused confusion. As you know, marketing can include many forms and we explain in the interview process what we specialize in. However, all of our positions are entry-level and include that there will be cross-training in sales. We recognize this position may not be best suited for certain individuals with personal and financial obligations. We respect your comments but Costco was named the fifth most valuable retail brand in the world, with a brand value of over 21 billion U.S. dollars in 2019 and would not hire an MLM. Your opinions are noted but seem a bit contradictory. Our training and development structure is designed to help accelerate one's growth and success within our company. We are firm believers in promotion from within to cut the corporate policy politics to make it an even playing field for all employees. Best of luck with your job search!
