      Entretien

Initial phone interview HR over the phone and was promised that all face to face interviews would be grouped for the same day so I wont have to take three days off to attend the different stages of interviews. But more on that later because they reneged on that offer. Did a phone interview with one of the VPs after I completed two writing assignments at home. The conversation was unnecessarily dragged out, especially since I was asked to meet with the same vp face to face again, despite what was agreed upon earlier about scheduling all face to face interviews into one day. The same VP and the HR who interviewed me over the phone offered to come to my area which I appreciated because I reminded them that they were the ones who offered to not have me take several days off work just to interview with them. BUT they insisted on meeting during my office hours, which sort of defeats the purposes. And they were almost an hour late. We then proceeded to chat and the VP started getting very intense, and proceeded to tell me this personal story that made me highly uncomfortable and asked me if I could at all times be honest and transparent about what I’m doing and where I’m at, to which I said “well I do value my privacy, just as I wouldn’t let my current employer know I’m interviewing with you”. It was just very strange. It gets even more interesting as a week later, they brought me in to meet with one of the core senior management executives who notes that I didn’t attend an Ivy League school, and proceeded to go on about how most people in the firm did (not true, according to what LinkedIn profiles say) and that I would have a hard time adjusting as I didn’t come from that kind of background, to which I responded, “this is something that was made very clear from the start. I don’t understand why I’m only hearing about this being a problem during my 5th round?” Then I was asked if I was married, if I had commitments on weekends and if I had plans on doing part time studies in the future as the candidate who is awarded the position is expected to be on call on weekends as well. I remember leaving the interview frustrated and confused as to whether I should continue with the next round as they said they would schedule my final round with the person the position reports to. The week after I received a call from HR congratulating me that I got the job. I asked why I didn’t have to come in for the final interview and HR said they felt that there was chance that the person I would be reporting to WOULD NOT like me so it’s better to just bring me on and let the person get used to me rather than arrange for us to meet. That does not make any sense.... Then HR gave me the the salary details of the package, which was NOT what we agreed upon in the earlier rounds, which she personally assured was well within their budget and a number that could meet. Furthermore HR insisted that it was market rate and that I should be happy that they’re offering me a 9% raise compared to what I was earning then - which is neither here nor there - but if I must go into it, is downright nonsense ESPECIALLY because they decided to throw in five extra hardcore duties that was not within the job scope of the position we discussed. They said I should be happy that they were giving me so many opportunities because it meant they valued me... But get this: they gave me a junior title saying that my age and experience did not merit the position of a manager. They never brought this up in the 5 rounds of interviews we did and my years of experience satisfied the requirements laid out in their job ad for a MANAGER. Self contradictory much? I guess I put up with their nonsense for so long because I thought it would be worth it to have a big name on my resume. But I just couldn’t. You can’t make this up yo.

I had a quick turnaround on a decision, the feedback came the same day which was much appreciated and saved me from having to chase feedback. Overall, the interview left a good impression of the company.
