Avantages
PracticeCFO has a unique niche. It only works with doctors who own their own practice (mostly dentists). It's more of an outsourced CFO and wealth management business with a strong CPA backend. Their main goal is to help organized a global plan across various financial functions (business planning, personal financial planning, accounting, tax, payroll, and investment management).
I would say the main advantages are
(1) I like the niche approach. We can go really deep in helping our clients. Our clients are really close with us, Send us Christmas cards, bring in food, give hugs, etc. That's because PracticeCFO mission statement is to "help doctors thrive financially" which in turn helps them achieve life goals.
(2) As a relatively young company, There's a lot of excitement around our evolution. It's big enough to have process, benefits, departments, etc, but small enough that we're still nimble to innovate the way we do things.
(2) The people are great. We've done some fun activities as a company like beach trips, pickle ball, camping, hiking, happy hours, and even taking the entire company to Yosemite where everyone had their own airstream (very fun).
(3) It's not perfect, but they have mentoring programs to give everyone a voice and share their feelings.
(4) The company is growing well, which feels like we're "going somewhere".
Inconvénients
As a younger company, it seems their always trying new technology and processes. It can be challenging to learn new systems. Once adopted, it's usually for the better, but change can be hard.
Some of the early team members decided to leave the company, which was hard on some because we're pretty close with each other on a personal level. And they left on bad terms because they felt they deserved more opportunity and pay given they were an early employee. But sometimes the people that get it through one phase of the company aren't the best ones to get through the next phase. And as the company has grown, it can require a different talent set. But I know personally that each person that left was given a farewell party and we celebrated them for the time working together. We haven't had many people leave, but we've done this with each one.
