You won't have to deal with them for long.

Inconvénients

There’s a lot of things I could say about Design At Work, but sometimes showing is better than telling. Sherman, set the wayback machine! In 2015 this company had a compliment of around 30 to 40 employees. July of 2019? 12 employees. The company has been so horribly mismanaged the last few years, layoffs are, or were, commonplace. I don’t think you could consider them much of a company if they laid anyone else off. Imagine coming into work every day, thinking it's your last. Every. Single. Day. But I’m getting off-topic, there's evidence! You can pull up archives of their team page using the Wayback Machine. Check 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and one from 2019. You can see the turnover, the people you need to kiss up to, and the people you can say goodbye to. Sorry fellow wordsmiths, they get you to post a positive review and give you the axe. Unfortunately, earlier years look a little strange, but you can see the broken image icons. These were once people and now serve as a metaphor for utter incompetence by management. Does anything else need to be said? You have been warned. Don’t be bullied or lulled into a false sense of security your first couple of months to post a positive review. Who posts a review before they’ve had the full course meal? Wait a few days, as they may be your last.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your time here. I'm sorry you didn't have a great experience and that based on your comments, you had to be laid off. Change is constant in our business, especially in an oil and gas city. During the period of 2016-17, when Houston businesses were deeply affected by the recession (and then Harvey), unfortunately we didn’t have a choice. We are a commodity business and when money is tight for a company, marketing services tend to be the first to go and we had to adjust our structure accordingly. Related to your comments on the size of our company being smaller than we were in years past. We have chosen to stay a small agency to be able to continue to provide a different level of service to our clients and thrive during downturns. We have since built a more efficient working processes that allow us to do more with less. The size of a company doesn’t always reflect the profitability. We value every employee that works at Design At Work. Employees that have a long tenure are not “suck ups” but important to our company’s success. I can’t speak for them but am very lucky to have what I consider the best creative in town choosing to be part of our agency. Around 4 years ago, we took the initiative provided by Glassdoor (because it was new back then) to have employees at all levels share their experience on the Glassdoor platform. While Glassdoor is a great resource for many reasons, including allowing a business to respond to reviews, it also allows past employees of more than 3 years to have a voice on something that is no longer relevant today. Thanks again for taking the time to leave this review and we wish you the best in your career.

Avantages

I've enjoyed working at Design At Work. The variety of client's they have and work we do is fun and different. We are truly part of helping most client's marketing department get their work accomplished. It's satisfying and exciting to be involved with so many businesses. With this company also being a small company, we are in the know about most things happening and that's refreshing. We don't have to worry if we will be let go for any reason and they are clear on the expectations of the roles. It is fast paced but doable if you are you able to adapt and focus. The company cares about the individuals and I hadn't seen that coming from a much larger company.

Inconvénients

Being in meetings can take you away from getting your to-do's done but I would rather be in a client meeting and hear it from them, than relayed by others. It is a small business and they are helping other small businesses., you will be held accountable for your own work.

Avantages

I've come to Design At Work (originally as a graphic designer) and stayed for as long as I have for so many reasons... we have very high quality clients and do everything we can upfront to help ensure a long-term relationship, there's huge advantages to working with a company and contact for a long period of time. In addition to the quality of client, there's variety of industries so there's opportunity to flex different muscles. Also, no two days are exactly the same. While the day can be unpredictable, that's the way any customer service based job can be... ultimately we're here for the client and their needs, some days are more demanding than others.

Inconvénients

I would say of all the positives, almost all of the exact same items listed could be negative. It really comes down to the required work (volume of that work), environment and work style individuals thrive within… and willingness/capacity for adaptability. A marketing agency isn't for everyone, we've had some individuals that were a great fits and some that weren't. I'm always grateful for each and every one of those individuals that helped our clients grow their business and helped us as a company get to the next step. I would also say, if you see these reviews and you want to ask questions, please do, I know we're very open as a company to discuss any of them.
