Avantages

I have worked at DCS for about 3.5 years as a project engineer. In this time my learning has accelerated beyond that of my peers due to the responsibilities that have been entrusted to me. The staff here is made up of very talented people that are easy to work with and get along with. The owner is a top notch engineer that strives to pass his wealth of knowledge on to all employees. The pay and benefits are great, I have been given generous raises each year without any negotiation on my part.

Inconvénients

Many of the previous reviews had merit at the time. The problems that I personally experienced have improved significantly in the last year or two. The company puts an emphasis on producing extremely high quality work, sometimes causing projects to be late or employees to work overtime. Management has a very direct communication style that can come across as harsh at times. Once I realized that it’s never personal, this hasn’t bothered me.

Avantages

The company focuses on providing a high quality product to their clients (at the cost of often times being late in delivery). I learned a lot about project development and management and about the plan creation process.

Inconvénients

Work/life balance was challenging. There was regular pressure to work late and on weekends which was challenging when Sundays were strictly prohibited for working. Additionally, vacation requests were regularly denied after putting in significant amounts of overtime. Staff was regularly belittled and degraded, often to point of tears. The poor work environment and high turnover in this small company makes it hard to get work done as it is constantly having to be restarted with new employees that have to be brought up to speed and trained.

Thank you for your feedback. DCS is listening and focused on improving employees' at work experience and have made many changes. We are sensitive to the importance of having downtime and have put policies in place over the last several years. This has included encouraging employees to talk with their manager if they need help with balancing the workload; management more closely analyzing incoming work and existing staffing to avoid over-committing the firm and implementing work planning software. Employees are not required to check their email in the evenings or weekends. DCS has an employee flexible work schedule. There is also an opportunity to work paid overtime. Non-exempt employees are paid time-and-1/2, and exempt straight time. The DCS average workweek is M-F, 8-5, and sometimes needs to flex so we can serve unanticipated requests from our clients. We apologize for any employees that have not been treated with respect. Disrespectful behavior has been addressed and will be addressed if needed again in the future.
